Some 'Freedom Of Speech' Reviews Coming In...

"One of the sturdiest, most rounded hip hop albums to emerge from these shores." - Mojo, 4/5

"Explosive… refreshingly outspoken and… musically daring" - Observer

"Lyrically lucid and thoughtful, the album is elevated by… innovative production" - The Times, 4/5

"There isn't likely to be a more politically engaged record all year" - The Scotsman, 4/5

"An ideas-laden statement of intent. Impeccable." - Evening Standard 4/5

"The most interesting and possibly the most exciting British MC on the scene. This is partly due to the fierce intelligence of her rhymes, and partly to the newly dark and insistent power of her beats... But it's mostly down to the jaw-dropping grace and nimbleness of her flow, which is pretty much peerless" - All-Music Guide

"Rams a fist down the throats of any Mercury-referencing naysayers. Social commentary, emotional nudity and confessional bravery illuminate a warm, honest album. A valuable, innovative voice with plenty to say." - The Fly, 4/5

"What makes this a truly great hip-hop album is that her words take on the quality of incantations, and that those incantations take on a life of their own. At a certain point they ignite, and the spark stays in the mind long after your headphones fall silent." - 5/5 MTV Iggy

"Absorbing, epic, heartfelt and delicately nuanced - a marvellous album" - The Skinny, 5/5

"Explosively ambitious... emotionally coherent and forward-looking... drawing on post-rock, jazz, reggae and, on the stunning Sun Dog, the bruising atmospherics of My Bloody Valentine. Throughout it all, Debelle's lyrics are pointed, honest and revealing about herself, her relationships and the larger world around her." - The Sunday Times

"Freedom of Speech is good - really good, actually... an album that sees Speech Debelle develop herself as an artist, instead of just her profile" - The Quietus

Freedom Of Speech is released 13 February 2012

"Freedom of Speech is good - really good, actually... an album that sees Speech Debelle develop herself as an artist, instead of just her profile" - The Quietus "Explosively ambitious... emotionally coherent and forward-looking... drawing on post-rock, jazz, reggae... Throughout it all, Debelle's lyrics are pointed, honest and revealing about herself, her relationships and the larger world around her." - The Sunday Times   'I'M WITH IT' NEW SINGLE 20 FEBRUARY 1. I'm With It (Radio Edit) 2. Blaze Up A Fire 3. I'm With It (Lapalux Remix) 4. I'm With It (Leo Zero Dub) 5. I'm With It (Leo Zero Remix) 6. I'm With It (Louis La Roche Remix) 7. I'm With It (Cooly G Remix) Speech Debelle returns with the lead single from her forthcoming sophomore album, 'Freedom of Speech.' And it’s a love song. Probably the most accessible and simply enjoyable moment of an amazing new album, 'I’m With It' sees Speech showing a different side to her character from either her more introspective earlier work, or some of the politically charged moments on the new record. Speech co-wrote the song with renowned composer Eg White, whose past credits include both Adele albums, work with Florence + The Machine, Rebecca Ferguson and more. Together they came up with an uplifting piece of pop perfection, which producer Kwes (Warp, Damon Albarn’s DRC project) then assisted in giving a future-Motown flavour to. 'FREEDOM OF SPEECH' NEW ALBUM 13 FEB (EU) / 21 FEB (NA) Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, 'Speech Therapy', and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music, 'Freedom of Speech'. Entitled 'Freedom of Speech', the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. Still brutally honest, yet a more mature and exciting record with lyrics to match, the new sound was shaped in collaboration with Kwes. Speech recently spoke at length to The Quietus and The Guardian, discussing her Mercury Prize win for debut album Speech Therapy, the creation of her upcoming follow-up Freedom Of Speech, and everything in between. Read them here: The Quietus //The Guardian Freedom Of Speech is released 13 February (21 Feb in NA) on Big Dada, and can be pre-ordered on 2LP, CD and download now from the Ninjashop, iTunes or Amazon. LIVE AT THE JAZZ CAFE LONDON, 23 FEBRUARY Thursday 23 February Speech Debelle with band Tickets £10
